Who We Are

RASA is a 501(c)3 non profit NO KILL small animal rescue. Our dedicated group of fosters and volunteers provide shelter and rehabilitation for abandoned and unwanted "pocket pets". We take exceptional care of every animal in our rescue and pride ourselves on upholding our motto "Transforming the neglected, abused, unwanted and abandoned into the loved, sheltered, happy and content". In some cases this means it will take months of patient interactions with our rescues to help them overcome whatever they have been through. Our vetting is extremely high due to being a no-kill rescue.

The History of Us

Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue will celebrate their 10th Anniversary on November 7, 2017.

In our first year of operation, we have been able to rescue over 200 animals and place 137 furries in permanent, loving homes where they are treated as family members. In our second year of operation we were able to place over 185 furries in permanent homes. For our third and fourth years we did not place as many as in the first two years because of the economy. These animals are alive, happy and healthy thanks to all the great adopters and dedicated volunteers. We are still in need of your donations so we can continuing what we do best. We accept PayPal, your donation is tax deductible. It will only take a minute of your time and will help enable us to continue taking care of these poor homeless creatures.

Rabbit and Small Animal Rescue was founded in order to provide a structure in which to rescue small animals in the Livonia-Westland-Dearborn-Oak Park areas of metro-Detroit. We are a group of foster homes that takes in animals from all over the metro-Detroit area. We have available for adoption: rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, chinchillas, small birds, and occasionally other animals. We socialize the animals, teaching them to trust people when we can. We sterilize all rabbits and rats before adopting them out and educate adopters of our other animals about the importance of keeping them in same-sex groupings. We then find new homes for the animals, screening and educating all adopters before sending our animals back out into the world.

In April 16, 2008, we became a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status, which means that all donations* will be tax deductible dating back to 11/6/07

March 2017:   We adopted out over 1000 pets since we began.

*Adoption and surrender fees are not considered donations by the IRS, as the donator has received something in return. However, any donation above and beyond the standard adoption or surrender fee is deductible, as are any and all other donations for which no good was received in return.
